VIBRATIONAL DEVICES
The use of BioMats in promoting relaxation and reducing stress has become increasingly popular in recent years.
Biomats are typically made of layers of materials including cotton, amethyst crystals, and infrared technology. The infrared technology emits heat, which is absorbed by the body and can promote relaxation, reduce muscle tension, and improve circulation. Some users also report feeling an overall sense of well-being and reduced stress levels.
While there is limited research specifically on biomats and the nervous system, there is some evidence to suggest that heat therapy and infrared technology may have beneficial effects on the nervous system. For example:
Heat therapy has been shown to increase parasympathetic nervous system activity, which promotes relaxation and reduces stress. One study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that heat therapy increased heart rate variability (HRV), a measure of the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, in healthy volunteers.
Infrared technology has been shown to have a positive effect on brain function. One study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that exposure to far-infrared radiation (FIR) improved cognitive function in healthy adults.
A systematic review published in the International Journal of Neuroscience found that thermal therapy (including heat therapy and infrared technology) may have a beneficial effect on the autonomic nervous system, which regulates involuntary bodily functions such as heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion.
