Introduction to Resilient Roots

Trauma-Informed Training

Module 1 - WHAT IS TRAUMA?

This chapter explores what trauma is and isn't, what it does in the brain and the way we experience, perceive and respond to life. It shares how to recognize trauma and the different types of trauma we may encounter.

Module 2 - THE NERVOUS SYSTEM AND TRAUMA

In this chapter, we go into the physiology of trauma in the nervous system and the brain. We'll look at how traumatic memories are created (and different types of memories), as well as the development of the nervous system and the impact of developmental trauma.

Module 3 - CREATING TRAUMA-INFORMED
PROCESSES AND GROUPS

In this module, we will explore the distinctions between being “trauma-aware,” “trauma-informed,” and “trauma-healing,” delve into the five core principles of trauma-informed practices, examine strategies for creating a sense of safety that resonates with the hindbrain, and learn practical tools to manage the intensity and pace of trauma responses. Additionally, we will focus on the role of prosody and language in these processes.

Module 4 - PRACTICES AND EMBODIMENT TOOLS

This chapter includes a series of guided methods to slow your activation down, bring you more deeply into the present moment, and build your embodiment, resilience and capacity to connect with your felt sense safely.

Module 5 - THE CONTEXT OF TRAUMA

So far we have looked at the ways trauma shows up in individual bodies and responses. But
we must also include the historical, structural and systemic contexts that create or reinforce
trauma in our clients.

Module 6 - HOW AND WHEN TO REFER

When we encounter people with complex trauma or presentations outside the scope of our training, it’s important to understand what we can offer and what needs to be referred to someone else.
